History Of Delta Alpha Chapter

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Dayton, OH – 4th District

 

Delta Alpha Chapter was organized and chartered in Dayton Ohio on June 1, 1934.  The first elected officers of Delta Alpha were:

Grand Basileus William Baugh visited the newly organized chapter in November of 1934.  In his report to the Saint Louis Conclave Brother Baugh noted that he met with Brother Shields and Brother Lloyd Lewis and wrote that Delta Alpha was “…destined to become a vital factor in building Omega in the Middle West.” *

In 1998, Delta Alpha recognized Brother Lloyd Lewis’ status as charter member and as a longtime outstanding member of the Dayton community. In particular, Brother  Lewis was instrumental in youth programs of the area.

 

Throughout the years, Delta Alpha has maintained focus on development of youth via scholarship, talent hunt and T-ball programs.  In addition, Delta Alpha men were vital parts of the black struggle for first class citizenship in the Dayton area.  Brother Jessie Gooding led the NAACP for many years.  In like manner, Brother Raleigh Trammell has spearheaded the SCLC efforts.
